Welcome to SCIP.be, the website of software developer, passionate world traveller and travel & nature photographer Stefan Cruysberghs.

On this website I show my most beautiful images. As a travel photographer I cover multiple genres but I am particularly intrigued by beautiful and desolate landscapes and seascapes, nature and wildlife, colorful people and authentic tribes.

This website also contains a lot of my own articles about software development (.NET, Delphi, Web, Mobile, Cloud, ...) and in addition you can download several older components and freeware applications.

World Wildlife Fund - Photo book
Publication The newest WWF book 'Beeldverhalen' is available in the bookstores since this week and offers you the most amazing and unique photographs from nature. Every year the World Wildlife Fund organizes a photo competition together with Frans Lanting. Out of the 13,000 photos submitted, the 170 best were selected. Three of my photographs are also published in this book.
Nature in Limburg
Photo contest In November 2017 I was invited to the opening of the photo salon of photo club Renovat in Sint-Truiden and the proclamation of the photo contest 'Nature in Limburg'. It turned out that I won the first prize of this contest with my photo of the Blekerheide in Lommel. Thanks Limburg province and photo club Renovat for the great price!
Nature Photographer of the Year
Photo contest In November 2017 my photo of a “Funny sifaka” was one of the finalists and finally highly commended (top 5) in the category Comedy in the international photo contest Nature Photographer of the Year 2017. The photos of the finalists were exposed during the Nature Talks Photo Festival in Ede (Netherlands) on November 11th and 12th. Afterwards these images will be exposed in several museums, public places and companies.
Roe deers
Photos The population of roe deers is the Lowlands (Belgium & Netherlands) is increasing. But even though they are spotted more often and in different biotopes, they mostly remain shy animals that are difficult to observe for a long time. The past summer I really started observing and photographing them in the nature areas in Aarschot and Scherpenheuvel-Zichem. This is a small series of my most beautiful photos.
National Geographic block calendar
Publication The new National Geographic block calendar for 2018 has been released. The National Geographic editors gave a photo assignment each month and asked the enthusiastic Flemish and Dutch photographers to submit their images and 365 images have been selected for the calendar. The result is a versatile palette of beautiful images, from places around the world, special people and impressive natural phenomena. I am very pleased that 7 of my photos were selected.
Trierenberg
Photo contest Publication of my photo 'Castelo Branco' in the luxury photo book of the prestigious international photo contest Trierenberg from Austria. Around 40 000 photographs were submitted. I photographed the tower of the Castelo Branco at the end of the blue hour with some fog at the high hilltop. I used some flash lights to illuminate the insides of the tower. The Miradouro do Castelo Branco is a viewpoint at the main island São Miguel of the Azores.
20 years personal website
In August 1997, 20 years ago, I released my first personal website. Around that time there were around 10.000 websites worldwide. Nowadays there are more than 1 billion websites. In the past many technical articles about software development were released on my website but nowadays I focus on my photography. I created a small article with some old screenshots and history but I especially hope that you keep on visiting my website to see my latest photos.
New version TscExcelExport
Component A new version of the TscExcelExport component. This Delphi VCL component is an advanced, powerful but easy to use component which enables you to export all records of a dataset from Delphi to Microsoft Excel. Version 4.3 offers support for Embarcadero Delphi 10 Seattle, 10.1 Berlin, 10.2 Tokyo and alle Excel versions from Office 97 to 2016.
Fox cubs
Photos Some months ago I had a great encounter with some red fox cubs (vulpes vulpes). Fox kits are always very cute and playful when they are around their brothers and sisters. These foxes weren't shy at all and I was able to lay down to get a nice viewpoint and photograph them near the water and in the sand dunes.
Little owls
Photos A small series of photos of the cute little owls with their bright yellow eyes. The little owl (Athene noctua) is one of the smallest owls (21 to 27cm) in the Lowlands. The little owl is mainly nocturnal and can be found in a wide range of habitats including farmland, woodland, heathland, … It feeds on insects and small vertebrates like mices.
AA Traveller magazine
Publication In the June issue of the South African AA Traveler magazine one of my photos was published. For the cover photo of the 'hiking heaven's edge' article, they used my picture of a sunset in the Simien Mountains. The article tells about the breathtaking and unique landscapes in the Simien Mountains in Ethiopia and the rare gelada baboons that live there.
Exhibition Lens op de Mens
Photo contest During the summer of 2017 the Cultural Centre of Palethe organizes the first edition of a two-yearly international photo festival ‘Lens op de mens’ (Spotlight on people) in Overpelt (Belgium). More than 250 professional and keen amateur photographers from around the world entered their photos. I also entered the contest with one photo of an eagle hunter in the Altay Mounains in Mongolia. This photo was selected to be shown in the exhibition. You can visit this exhibition in the streets of Overpelt-Centre starting from Sunday 18 June until the end of August 2017.
Azores
Photos Photos of our trip to São Miguel, the main island of the Azores, in September 2016. We stayed there one week. The Azores is an archipelago composed of nine volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean about 1300 km west of Portugal. We explored the picturesque villages, the rugged cliffs, the lighthouses and the 3 volcanos Sete Cidades, Fogo and Furnas with our rental car, we did short walks in the countryside and went for a day at sea to spot dolphins. Especially at sunset we went out to make good photos.
First price Joker photo contest
Photo contest The Belgian travel agency Joker organizes a photo contest every year. A lot of beautiful travel photos were submitted at the end of 2016. A public prize was awarded and the jury selected 7 of the most stunning photos. I received the first price with my photograph of a chameleon catching an insect in Madagascar.
Sint-Pieters-Rode
Photos Photos from last year 2016 of the castle of Horst and the nearby chapel in Sint-Pieters-Rode (Holsbeek). The photos were taken in different seasons at day time but also at night. The castle of Horst was built in the mid-14th century and is still quite authentic. The small chapel of Saint Joseph is located in a field under an old lime tree nearby the castle. It has been built in the beginning of the 19th century.
WWF - Book World Nature
Publication In December the newest book of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has been released. 'World Nature' shows the very best nature photos by 2016. The WWF organizes an annual photo competition together with Frans Lanting, one of the most famous nature photographers in the world. More than ten thousand (11,500 this year) photos were judged and the 170 best ones were selected. Also one of my photos has been selected. On page 42-43, the image of a giant chameleon catching a bug can be found.
Autumn in the Ardennes
Photos Autumn pictures of the beautiful region around Malmedy in the Belgian Ardennes with the wonderful valley of the Hoëgne, the waterfall of Bayehon, the castle of Reinhardstein and the waterfalls of the Ninglispo.
Woodpeckers
Photos In the Benelux (Belgium/Netherlands/Luxemburg) live five species of woodpeckers. They are beautiful fascinating birds but they are also quite shy and cautious. The great spotted woodpecker is the least shy and is quite common. The green woodpecker can be seen in gardens. The last months I was able to make some good photos of three species (great spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker and black woodpecker) in moste cases from a hide.
Oostvaardersplassen
Photos The Oostvaardersplassen in Flevoland is the largest national park in the Netherlands. It is a large wetland with reed plains, rough grassland and ponds that attracts thousands of birds. 25 years ago they introduced some deer, Heck cattle and Konik horses and this park is a very good example of rewilding. Now there live about 1100 wild horses, almost 3300 red deer, 40 Heck cattle, around 50 roe deers and a healthy population of red foxes.
Customized tasks in VSTS builds
Article The Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS) have a totally new way of creating build definitions. There are many available tasks right out of the box. In this article I will cover some techniques how to customize the build process. I will show you how to implement PowerShell scripts and work with environment variables and arguments, how to load custom C# .NET assemblies and how to create extensions and upload them to VSTS.
India south
Photos Photos of our journey through south India. We began our a journey with a houseboat trip on the tropical backwaters of Kerala. Afterwards we went to the Western Ghats mountains with beautiful and rolling tea plantations and the 'hill stations'. We spotted the endangered and rare lion-tailed macaque monkeys and around 120 species of birds. We also went three days on safari in Kabini and we saw lots of monkeys, deer, elephants, crocodiles, flying foxes and a tigress. Then we visited the palaces in Mysore and the beautifully refined temples in Halebidu en Belur. We also visited the wonderful site of Hampi with beautiful temples and palaces. We ended our trip on the beach in Goa at the Indian Ocean.
Publications funny sifaka photos
Publication Publication of my photos of a funny sifaka at the website of online edition of The Daily Mail and The Telegraph (UK). The Daily Mail Online has over 11 million visitors daily. We encountered a very curious and funny sifaka in southern Madagasar. He posed for my camera in a variety of incredible and hilarious poses.
Winter in Sint-Pieters-Rode
Photos Photos of the nearby castle and chapel of Horst during the winter. The castle of Horst was built in the mid-14th century and is still quite authentic. The small chapel of Saint Joseph is located in a field under an old linden tree nearby the castle. It has been built in the beginning of the 19th century.
Madagascar
Photos Photos of our journey through the fascinating Madagascar. Very special on the ‘Red Island’ are the unique endemic animals such as lemurs, sifakas, chameleons, geckos, lizards, frogs, birds, ... Moreover there are varied landscapes such as dense rainforests, dry forests, savanna, huge baobab trees, tropical beaches with palm trees, rice terraces, unique rock formations and canyons ... The country has many colorful people and everywhere you can still see traditional ox carts, old cycle and pulled rickshaws, dugout canoes, ...
Kingfishers
Photos Kingfishers are one of the most beautiful species of birds in my country Belgium. This bird is a fish-eater with a bright blue orange plumage of about 16cm long. I already spend a lot of hours sitting in my camouflage hide near a pond, but often I didn’t capture any good shots. Recently, however, it was a great day and a young female kingfisher has been fishing for many hours. She catched fishes, insects and a lot of frogs and tadpoles and eat them all. I was able to shoot a lot of beautiful photos.

Rutting season in Hoge Veluwe
Photos Every year the rutting season of the red deers starts at the end of September. We went one day to the beautiful Hoge Veluwe National Park in the Netherlands. The park is home to almost 200 red deers. During the rutting season the males, known as stags, leave their male herds and will search for females. At that time male red deers will have impressive antlers and they will grow a short neck mane. They start belling and fighting with other males to impress the hinds.

Publication On September 5th the Belgian newspaper 'Het Belang van Limburg' published a very nice article (in Dutch) about my photography and the publication of my seven pictures in the calendar of National Geographic. The newspaper has more than 100,000 readers.
National Geographic calendar
Publication The beautiful National Geographic block calendar 2016 has been released and available for sale. This time they collected the most beautiful images from amateur photographers. I am very delighted that 7 of my photos are included. And even more, they published a mini-interview with me and used two of my photos in a promotional article for it.
