Lower Zambezi - Hippo There are so many pods of hippos in the Zambezi river. They are in the water, under the water, grazing or sleeping along the banks, grunting, yawning to show their massive ivory canines which can bite a canoe in half. Hippos do not attack for food but they are extremely territorial when in the water so you have to give them the widest of wide berths. Other dangers were crocodiles, submerged trees, hidden sandbanks, wind and strong currents. Stefan Cruysberghs
