There are still about 700 mountain gorillas living in central Africa, a threatened species of animals which can not survive in captivity. We had permits for one of the 4 gorilla families in the Bwindi national park.
The Nkuringo family consists of 18 gorillas of which 2 are silverbacks. Mountain gorillas move a maximum 1 kilometer each day. We were lucky and after only a 1 hour walk the rangers had already found the gorillas. The rangers slash a way through the dense forest and soon we see a few nests in which there is still a gorilla. The first gorilla which we can admire from quite close is the young female X-mas.
