The Hamer are famous for their traditional bull jumping which is a rite of passage for men coming of age. A man must run over a line of 10 to 30 bulls without falling. During this ceremony, the women whip themselfs on their bare backs.
Visiting the Omo valley and the 8 tribes was a wonderful and unique experience and I was able to make some really good portrait photos. But I’m not sure if I would recommend the trip because you have to drive long distances, you see a lot of poverty, people are begging to take photos, you have to pay for each photo separately and it is quite difficult to shoot photos of the daily life.
