Arenal - Rufous-tailed hummingbird (Costa Rica)

Flight shot of a Rufous-tailed hummingbird (Amazilia tzacatl). Hummingbirds while in flight have the highest metabolism of all animals. Their heart rate can reach as high as 1,260 beats per minute and they can beat their wings 15 to 80 times per second. Hummingbirds are continuously flying around and drinking nectar from flowers. They consume more nectar than their own weight each day.
