A male green violetear (colibri thalassinus) in the valley of San Gerardo in Costa Rica The green violetear is a medium-sized, metallic green hummingbird with glittering violet ear-patches on the both sides of its neck. This humingbird generally prefers more humid and high-altitude areas (1200 to 2300m) such as cloud forests.
Hummingbirds while in flight have the highest metabolism of all animals. Their heart rate can reach as high as 1,260 beats per minute and they can beat their wings 15 to 80 times per second. Hummingbirds are continuously flying around and drinking nectar from flowers. They consume more nectar than their own weight each day.
