A Kazakh eagle hunter is called kusbegi/kushbegi/qusbegi or berkutchi. In Turkic languages kus(h)begi means ‘bird lord’ or ‘bird master’. Berkut is the word for ‘golden eagle’ and ‘chi’ is the end tag for words. The berkutchi mostly wear their traditional costumes. Their fur coats are made of marmot, fox or wolf skins caught by their eagles. The eagle hunters always wear a 'tomach', a fur cap of fox skin combined with red, fuschia or blue fabric. The more extravagant the coat, the more respected the hunter.
