The Southern ground hornbill (Bucorvus leadbeateri ) is the largest species of hornbill and it can be found in eastern and southern Africa. This bird is 90 to 129 centimetres long and weighs between 4 and 6 kilograms. They forage on the ground where they feed on rodents, reptiles, frogs and insects. I already saw them in several African countries but I thought they couldn't fly. But during a game drive in South Luangwa national park in Zambia we saw a ground hornbill sitting high in a tree and then it suddenly flew away. Wow, it was fantastic to see this impressive bird flying.
