Then we started a tour with a housboat on the Kerala backwaters. The Kerala backwaters are a chain of brackish lagoons, lakes and canals lying parallel to the Malabar Coast. It is a tropical location with many palm trees, rice fields, colourful birds, small villages, … The tourist houseboats look like the traditional kettuvallams which were used to transport the rice and grains to the harbors.
