The Banjara or Lambani are the largest gypsy group in India. In the past they were nomadic and traded and transported salt, grains, firewood and cattle. Nowadays most of them have settled down. Banjaras speak Gor Boli, a language that originates from Sanskrit. Nowadays they also speak the predominant language of their surroundings. The Banjaras have a historical link with the Roma people in Europe. Most Banjaras still live in poverty and a lot of their children to not attend schools.
