In the valley of Bachalm near Filzmoos there lives a large colony of alpine marmots (Marmota marmota) or murmeltieren in German. They are not shy and come close to walkers who have food with them. The alpine marmot feeds on grasses, herbs and sometimes they also eats flowers, unripe fruits and roots. It is a diurnal animal that lives in a family group in a deep, extensive tunnel system, a castle.
