During the Easter holidays I explored the Langhe region in Piedmont/Piemonte in Italy for a week with my family. This region is known for its many vineyards, famous wineries, beautiful towns such as Alba and Bra and the many picturesque authentic villages with castles on the hilltops. We stayed just in front of the beautiful castle of Grinzane Cavour.
The 13th-century castle stands on top of a hill and is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The medieval character has been perfectly preserved and it is now a museum, enoteca and restaurant. All around the castle are vineyards and the view is beautiful. The statesman Count Camillo Benso of Cavour lived there for several years and played an important role in the Italian unification (1861), was the architect of the Italian constitution and became the first prime minister of a unified Italy.
