The hamerkop is a common medium-sized brown African water bird. They have a characteristic head that resembles a hammer when the bird extends its neck. The hamerkop is best known for its gigantic nests that can grow up to 1.5 meters in size. We saw the hamerkop quite regularly around Lake Naivasha in Kenya and it is also a beautiful bird in flight.
