Google Earth - Icons for placemarks

When adding a Placemark in Google Earth you can choose some icons from the gallery. However on your local harddisk in the folder C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\res extra folders with icons are available.

These icons are also available on the webserver of Google. When you want to share placemarks on the internet via KML or KMZ files, it is more easier to use the URL of the icons on the webserver.

The URL looks like : http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/pal%/icon%.png. There are folders from pal2 to pal5 with icons from 1 to 63. Here a visual overview of all icons.
