Hampi - Virupaksha temple Sunrise at the northern side of the Virupaksha temple in Hampi. The wonderful ancient city of Hampi is located in the state of Karnataka in southern India. In the 13th to 17th century it was the capital city of the Vijayanagara empire but it is believed that this temple has been built in the 7th century AD.
