The beautiful Hawa Mahal, or Palace of Winds, has 953 windows, balconies and alcoves spread over five floors. The palace was built in 1799 by order of Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and gave the women the opportunity to look outside to the street life and the processions without being seen. When we visited it, it was being renovated.
