The ‘Avenue of Baobabs’/’Alley of Baobabs’/’Allée des Baobabs’ is one of Madagascar’s iconic landmarks. The region between Morondava and Belon'i Tsiribihina in western Madagscar has hundreds of impressive baobabs. This ‘avenue’ is a prominent group of 25 baobab trees along a dirt road. Baobabs are native of Madagascar. Six of the eight known species are endemic and the baobabs on the ‘avenue’ are ‘Adansonia grandidieri’, the tallest baobab species. These trees are 30 meters high and are thought to be more than 800 years old. We left our hotel in Morondava early to photograph these impressive trees during sunrise.
