A rare sighting was the beautiful Small copper (Lycaena phlaeas). The Small copper likes dry areas with bare patches and probably felt at home in many gardens this dry summer. The Silver-washed fritillary is the largest orange-like butterfly that can be encountered in Flanders and here it is still quite rare.
