Photos Ethiopia
In November 2012 I travelled with some friends for 3 weeks to Ethiopia, an relative unknown but really amazing country. We started our journey at Lake Tana and the impressive Tis Isat waterfalls of the Blue Nile. In Gondar we explored the castles of Fasilidas which were built in the 17th century. In the Simien Mountains we hiked for 5 days and saw beautiful landscapes and fascinating wildlife like the unique gelada baboons, the rare Ethiopian wolf and a lot of bird of prey. Then we took a flight to Lalibela which is well known for its eleven rock churches from the 13th century. We also had a lovely 2-days hike in the mountains around Lalibela.
From the capital city Addis Abeba we started our 10-day jeep trip to the south of the country. In Abiata NP and Nechisar NP we saw a lot of wildlife like thousands of flamingos, impressive Nile crocodiles, a lot of zebras, hippos, antelopes, colobus monkeys, colorful birds, ... We travelled further to the unique Omo valley; the region around the Omo river and Mago NP near the borders of Kenya and Sudan. This region is the home stay of the 20 ethnical tribes who still have authentic body art, traditions and rituals. They are believed to be among the most fascinating on the continent of Africa. We visited the Dorze, Konso, Tsemai, Banna, Ari, Mursi, Dassanech and Hamer people and we were quite impressed by their way of live. I resulted in a lot of fascinating photos.
